Why Lebanon is part of the Israeli war on Iran.
On June 16, 2025, and during an interview with ABC News, Netanyahu had called on the United States for help in the assassination of the Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei, knowing that Hezbollah would respond. The Israeli Mossad sought contact with the CIA as it doesn't have the means and technologies (satellite?). However, the CIA needs always explicit approval from the president, which means that the current president had knowledge and knew that Hezbollah would respond. Both agencies were preparing the covert activities during the second half of that year, also knowing that Hezbollah would respond. In December of that year, Netanyahu vowed to attack Iran in 2026 again.
On February 28, 2026, the Israelis assassinated Khamenei by bombing the building where the Supreme Leader was. The assassination opened the resumption of Netanyahu's preemptive12-day war on Iran, he had waged in June 2025. On March 1st, Hezbollah reacted to the assassination by vowing revenge, which it carried out the following day. Both the United States and the Israelis have dragged Hezbollah, not Lebanon, in the resumption of that war. Therefore, Hezbollah is the de facto party for engaging in agreements to ceasefires in Lebanon, not the Lebanese government, which has violated the Lebanese constitution, as it doesn't have the required constitutional mandate needed to engage in DIRECT talks with the enemy.
Lebanon doesn't recognize, that the Israelis have a state and it hasn't signed any peace agreement with them. The Lebanese law has classified the territory colonized by the Israelis as an enemy 'state' since 1955. This designation was formally established through the Anti-Israeli Boycott Law, enacted on June 23, 1955. The legislation strictly prohibits Lebanese citizens and entities from having commercial, financial, or political relations with the enemy.
