UNESCO lists Lebanon sites over Israel’s objections
The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has inscribed a group of castles in southern Lebanon on the World Heritage list , over objections from Israel, reports The Associated Press news agency.
The decision, at a UNESCO meeting in South Korea on Friday, came days after Israel’s Foreign Ministry urged the committee to reject the bids, the news agency reported.
Undeterred, the committee decided to place the five castles in Lebanon’s Mount Amel area on both the World Heritage List and the List of World Heritage in Danger after reviewing the nominations on an emergency basis, citing ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
It said the castles in Lebanon date from the medieval period to the 19th century and “illustrate successive phases of occupation and adaptation by Crusader, Ayyubid, Mamluk, Ottoman, and local feudal rulers”.

Large blast reported in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district
A large explosion shook the area of Masha’a al-Mansouri in the Tyre district of southern Lebanon, with the blast heard in the city of Tyre and surrounding villages, Lebanon’s National News Agency reports.
It said the explosion was carried out by the Israeli military.
In a separate incident, NNA reported that Israeli forces carried out a sweep operation using automatic weapons near a Lebanese army post in the village of Majdel Zoun.

Lebanese Muslim leader says trust lies with Iran not US or Israel
Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, deputy head of the Higher Islamic Shia Council and a prominent Hezbollah-aligned figure, says Lebanon won’t be deceived by US or Israeli assurances and is placing its trust in Iran and resistance forces.
Al-Khatib said past “bitter experiences” taught Lebanese people not to believe promises.
“We rely on the patience of our people and our resistance, which will not surrender its weapons to empty promises and oaths,” al-Khatib said in a statement carried by Tasnim news agency.
He also praised “the support of our allies, brothers and friends – at the forefront of them is the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has never failed to support us or fulfill its promises to us”.

Israel launches artillery attacks into southern Lebanon
Israeli military has fired artillery into southern Lebanon as it continues to breach a US-brokered “ceasefire”.
Israel targeted the villages of Kafrtbenit, Misra, Beit Yahun and Kunin, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency citing Lebanese local sources.
Press TV reported Israeli shelling on the southern town of Markaba and Ali al-Taher heights on Saturday.

Four bodies retrieved from rubble in Lebanese town as Israeli troops withdraw
Search and rescue teams have recovered four bodies in the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiya in southern Lebanon, according to the National News Agency.
Civil defense workers said the bodies had been transferred to hospital.
The organization said teams are working to strengthen public safety measures for residents returning to the shattered town after Israeli troops withdrew and the Lebanese army was deployed under a US-brokered agreement.

Large explosion felt in Lebanon’s Nabatieh, bombing reported in Markaba
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reports that a large explosion has shaken the Nabatieh region, with the blast heard across much of the area.
The news outlet said it was caused by a major Israeli bombardment of the town of Kfar Tebnit.
NNA also reported that the Israeli military carried out a new bombing operation in the southern town of Markaba.

The US does not want to do is see the military conflict expand
Israel, for the most part, has been on the sidelines, and this has been primarily a US-Iranian conflict for the past several weeks.
In the meantime, the US has put a lot of energy into getting the Lebanese government and the Israeli government to agree to try to start this pilot program of demilitarization in southern Lebanon, in order to try to bring peace.
The Houthis are a proxy organization for the Iranian government; so the US does not want to see another potential part of the conflict move to another part of the region, and so we can expect that this would be brought up as a point of discussion between the US and Iran.
