Israel infiltrates Lebanese army-held village, erects earthen barrier

Israeli troops have infiltrated a Lebanese village placed under the control of Lebanon’s army as part of a June agreement, building an earthen barrier there overnight, the state media and the local mayor said.

The barrier was situated at the eastern entrance to the village of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, blocking a road there, the AFP news agency reported. Local authorities said it was unclear if any Israeli forces remained in the area.

“An Israeli occupation army force advanced into the village of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh shortly after midnight … and erected a new earthen barrier near the town square,” Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh was one of two designated “pilot zones” where the Lebanese army was to take over as part of a US-sponsored framework agreement signed with Israel. Contacted by AFP, the Israeli military said it was “not aware of such an event in this area”.

Prefab houses arrive in south Lebanon for displaced residents

The first batch of prefabricated houses has arrived in the southern Lebanese town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh for residents whose homes were destroyed by Israeli attacks, Lebanon’s National News Agency reports.

It said the houses have been temporarily placed in the nearby village of Qaqaiyat al-Jisr until the rubble in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh is cleared.

Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh is one of the three towns the Lebanese army took control of in the first phase of a “pilot zone” project as part of the larger framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel signed in Washington, DC, in June.

The army began entering the town late last month.

Earlier, the NNA reported that Israeli troops infiltrated the town and built an earthen barrier at its eastern entrance overnight on Saturday.

Israel shelling southern Lebanon ‘intermittently’

The area between the villages of Mayfadoun and Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in Nabatieh was shelled “intermittently” in the morning, according to the country’s National News Agency.

The Israeli army also shelled Ali al-Taher Heights in Nabatieh overnight, it added.

Israeli military torching buildings in southern Lebanon’s Haddatha, says state news agency

An Israeli tank has invaded the town of Haddatha in southern Lebanon and troops have set buildings on fire, according to the Lebanese state-owned National News Agency.

It happened after the political wing of Hezbollah accused Israel of destroying the environment by razing forested areas of southern Lebanon and burning centuries-old olive trees.

Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reports that three Israeli attacks have taken place on separate locations in southern Lebanon.

NNA’s correspondent reported that Israel bombed the village of Kfar Tebnit, whilst the outskirts of the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa were targeted by Israeli shelling.

The town of Mansouri was also hit by Israel according to NNA.
