US official says next round of Israel-Lebanon talks to be held on August 4

A US State Department official has told AFP that the next round of talks between Israel and Lebanon will take place in Rome on August 4.

“In Rome, technical groups will focus on advancing the full implementation of the framework agreement” signed between Israel and Lebanon in June, the official said, adding that the talks will “include expanding the pilot zone process, resolving all outstanding border issues, and working on a comprehensive peace and security agreement”.

The framework deal outlines a “sequenced process” in which the Lebanese army restores “effective sovereign authority over all Lebanese territory”, pending the verified disarmament of Hezbollah. Only then, it says, will Israel be able to “progressively redeploy” out of Lebanon.

The deal also outlines two “pilot zones” for an initial Israeli withdrawal.

Israel carrying out ‘bombing, demolition operations’ in south Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency is reporting that explosions were heard in the southern city of Tyre this morning amid Israeli “bombing and demolition operations”.

The operations were being carried out in the southern Lebanese towns of Majdal Zoun, al-Mansouri and Bint Jbeil, it reported.

Israeli strike hits residential building in southern Lebanon

An Israeli drone has struck an apartment in Nabatieh al-Fawqa as forces continue blowing up buildings in border towns.

A drone carried out two consecutive strikes in the area, sparking a fire inside the apartment, the state-run National News Agency said. No casualties were immediately reported.

According to official Lebanese figures, Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 have killed more than 4,332 people and injured 12,236 others.

The incident comes despite a framework agreement signed last month between Israel and Lebanon under US mediation that provides for a phased Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territory.

Israeli army carries out demolitions in southern Lebanon’s Tyre

Explosions have been heard in the ancient city of Tyre as Israeli forces blow up buildings in the border towns of Majdal Zoun, al-Mansouri and Bint Jbeil.

The Israeli army also carried out a large explosion in the village of al-Qusayr in Nabatieh district, the National News Agency reported.

Ongoing Israeli military activity in southern Lebanon comes despite a framework agreement signed last month between Tel Aviv and Beirut under US mediation to end the occupation of Lebanese territory.

At least 4,333 people killed in Lebanon since March 2

Lebanon’s Health Ministry says 4,333 people have been killed since March 2 as Israeli forces continue to occupy significant parts of southern Lebanon, despite the US-backed ceasefire agreement signed in June.

At least 12,236 Lebanese have been wounded.

Many displaced Lebanese returning to “pilot zone” villages where Israeli forces are supposed to have withdrawn from have found their homes in ruins.

Lebanon’s army says Israeli forces are obstructing their deployment as agreed.

Israeli forces carry out another bombing operation in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district

The Israeli army has attacked the border towns of Majdal Zoun and al-Mansouri, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reports.

The latest round of explosions came hours after Israeli forces up buildings in the same towns earlier today, as well as Bint Jbeil, NNA said.

Israel has kept up military activity in southern Lebanon despite last month’s framework agreement to end its occupation.
