Homes damaged in Israeli artillery attack on Lebanese town

Lebanon’s National News Agency reports that Israeli artillery shelled the vicinity of the town of al-Mansouri early Saturday morning.

The shelling damaged a number of homes in the area, according to NNA.

Israeli artillery shells southern Lebanon’s Ali al-Taher forests

Israeli artillery shelling has continued intermittently since midnight until this morning on the forests and high ground of Ali al-Taher on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, southern Lebanon, according to the country’s National News Agency (NNA).

It added that the shelling also affected the area between Kfar Reman and the hill of al-Dabsha (Tallat al-Dabsha) overlooking Nabatieh.

Israeli force advance into outskirts of Meiss el-Jabal village, southern Lebanon

Israeli forces have advanced into the northern outskirts of Meiss el-Jabal village, in southern Lebanon’s Wadi al-Jamal area, the country’s National News Agency reports.

The advancement occurred as Israeli artillery shelled one of the houses and Israeli forces conducted a firing sweep with machineguns.

Security situation in Lebanon linked to ‘external factors’

Joe Macaron, a geopolitical analyst focusing on the Middle East, says the problem of the landmark Israeli-Lebanese framework agreement is that it “legitimised the Israeli occupation somehow without [a] clear withdrawal deadline” to leave southern Lebanon.

“At the same time, Hezbollah have no clear exit strategy from entering two wars – first in support of Gaza and second in support of what’s happening with Iran. But they also have no clear vision, so we have two competing, incompatible visions in Lebanon now, which doesn’t make it easy,” Macaron said.

“Also, you have the Israeli government, which doesn’t make it easy and is keen on resisting any pressure and is keen to hold on to the gains of October 7, 2023, in Syria, Gaza and Lebanon,” he added.

Macaron explained that now Lebanon’s security is linked to “external factors” that the people themselves do not control.

1. From a historical perspective: the US has been a Zionist country since 1898.
2. The US politics on the Middle East has always been in the interest of the Israelis.
3. The Israelis pretend any engaged agreement or reached acceptance is non-existed when it is not explicit beneficial to them.
4. The framework is for that reason written in a language of ambiguity. That is why no time frame is specified.
5. Hezbollah doesn't need a exit strategy as it is excluded from the framework. It is simply not part of the non-binded reached acceptance that is only between the party who brought the war on Iran to Lebanon, and the Lebanese government that has no leverage whatsoever.

The Lebanese army says three soldiers have been injured while trying to dispose of unexploded ordnance in the southern town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyah.

One of the soldiers’ injuries was described as “moderate”.

NNA also reported “intermittent artillery shelling” on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, also in southern Lebanon.
