Israeli gunfire, shelling reported in southern Lebanon

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency is reporting that Israeli forces opened fire using machineguns this morning towards the southern Lebanese town of Wadi al-Salouqi.

It said Israeli forces also fired shells at the town of al-Mansouri overnight.

The report did not say whether there were any casualties or injuries.

The Israeli military issued a forced displacement order for the town of al-Mansouri on Wednesday, marking its first displacement directive in weeks.

NNA earlier reported that the Israeli military razed homes in the town of Khiam. Detonations were also conducted in the area between the villages of Kfar Tebnit and Arnoun in the Nabatieh district.

Meanwhile, Israeli artillery shelled the strategic Ali al-Taher heights, the vicinity of the Dabsheh and Kfar Reman hills intermittently from midnight on Sunday into the early hours of Monday.

US State Department official: Lebanon-Israel talks to resume in Rome next month

A US State Department official has said, that US-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel will resume in Rome early next month, with no exact date yet agreed.

The official said initial implementation of the pilot zones within the trilateral framework has begun, and that the military coordination group on Lebanon will keep working in the coming weeks to ensure their successful rollout. “Both sides face political constraints, and we are working to address them systematically,” the official said.

The official said “the process remains positive, and no one is slowing down the implementation of the agreement,” noting the framework is being implemented, the first zones are operational, and working groups have standardized terminology, maps and procedures.

The official said the fact that teams are “sitting together, communicating directly, and proposing options and solutions represents a structural change in itself”.
