Suehaila Amen’s voice trembles when she speaks about the plight of south Lebanon, where Israel is systematically wiping out entire villages. She struggles to hold back tears.

Amen, a prominent local activist, says the large Arab American community in Michigan is suffering from shock, pain and exhaustion after nearly three years of war, mass killings and destruction in Palestine and Lebanon.

“To say the community is hurting is really an understatement. Even in answering this question, I’m brought to tears because I lived there,” she said of Bint Jbail, one of the border towns in Lebanon that has been leveled by Israeli forces.

“This is my land too — my ancestral homeland. People are feeling like they are disregarded, that their lives don’t matter.”

In the middle of this despair, Amen said she has found a beacon of hope in the rise of politicians across the United States who are calling for an end to government support for Israel.

 

    

Israeli army says 401st Brigade ‘completes mission’ in southern Lebanon

A military update says soldiers in the 401st Brigade, operating under the 91st Division, began operations in the region eight months ago.

The operations “included defensive operations along the border and operations in the Security Zone in southern Lebanon”, the statement said.

According to the statement, the soldiers dismantled more than 1,200 Hezbollah sites, including “underground routes stretching hundreds of meters”.

The forces located more than 600 weapons and killed more than 60 Hezbollah members, it claimed.

 

    

Loud explosions rock southern Lebanese town

Loud explosions have rocked the town of Kunin in Nabatieh governorate’s Bint Jbeil district, according to the National News Agency (NNA).

Israeli operations have repeatedly attacked the town, and several others, with artillery shelling, air strikes and controlled detonations amid the ongoing occupation of southern Lebanon despite a US-brokered ceasefire deal.

Explosions rocked the town of Haddatha, also in Bint Jbeil, overnight.

In the town of al-Mansouri, NNA reported that Israeli forces dropped a stun grenade on an abandoned house. No casualties have been reported.

Lebanese army says five soldiers injured in Israeli attack on Bint Jbeil

A statement cited by the official National News Agency says the soldiers sustained minor injuries in the Israeli strike in Bint Jbeil in the Nabatieh governorate in southern Lebanon.

The NNA said that the attack targeted a civilian vehicle escorted by a Lebanese army vehicle.

The Lebanese army said that five Lebanese soldiers sustained minor injuries in the attack.

 

    

Israeli army shells Ali al-Taher Heights in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army has fired phosphorus shells to ignite fires in forests in Ali al-Taher Heights in southern Lebanon, said the National News Agency.

The area is on the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa municipality.

 

    

Israeli forces set fire to houses in southern Lebanon

Israeli forces are burning houses in the al-Mashaa area located between the towns of al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district, in southern Lebanon, according to the country’s National News Agency (NNA).

Israeli attacks have continued today, with NNA reporting earlier that five Lebanese army soldiers sustained minor injuries during an attack on Bint Jbeil, in the Nabatieh governorate in southern Lebanon.
