Israeli FM criticizes Turkish counterpart’s Syria comments

Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has criticized his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, for accusing Israel of “destabilizing Syria.”

“These are the same Turkish leaders who have spent decades violating the sovereignty of Syria while cynically lecturing others on international law,” Saar wrote on X.

He accused Turkiye of lecturing others while it “occupies five percent of Syria” to undermine Israel’s security by establishing military bases in the country.

“In comparison, Israel holds a buffer zone that comprises just one-tenth of one percent of Syrian territory, in order to protect itself from the terrorist groups seeking to attack Israel from southern Syria,” he said.

“What Minister Fidan wants is for Israel to stop protecting itself from threats to its security. This will not happen. Israel will continue to take all measures necessary to defend its citizens against any threat.”

Areas of Tell Abyad District and Ras al-Ayn District in Northeastern Syria have been under the administration of the transitional government since March 2025, but Turkish troops still remain because of the Syrian Kurds. However, the Turkish presence does not hallmark the intention of seeking permanent presence. Turkey is in Syria for security reasons unless their presence exceeds the time frame described in international law as temporary.

The Israelis have showed with the seizure of the Golan Heights and Quneitra province in 1967, that they have exceeded far beyond the time frame  described in international law as temporary.

Then, the Israelis invaded and occupying  Deraa province in Southern Syria and are expanding their presence. They are utterly claiming "for security reasons, while Jihadists have transformed themselves into an transitional government.

Add the refusal of withdrawal from Southern Lebanon and Gaza, no matter the reason, and you see the shape of an biblical empire is emerging.

The Israelis are clearly seeking for expansion of their "lebensraum."
