Israeli forces arrest 5 Palestinians in occupied West Bank raid

Israeli forces have arrested five young men from the city of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

Several military vehicles entered the city through its main eastern entrance and deployed in the al-Naqar neighborhood. Forces raided and searched local homes before making the arrests, according to the Wafa report.

Hamas denounces killing of 2 Palestinians by Israeli colonists

Hamas official Abdul Rahman Shadid has condemned the killing of two Palestinians near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank after they confronted Israeli colonists during an attack.

Shadid said the killings in Deir Jarir are “an extension of the policy of murder and organised terrorism carried out by the occupation government against our people in the West Bank”.

He praised the “steadfastness of the residents of Deir Jarir and their resistance to the attack”, describing it as “a manifestation of the unwavering will to protect their land and honour”.

Palestinians will not allow colonists “to violate our cities and villages with impunity no matter the cost”, said Shadid.

 

Death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza rises

Three Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip over the last 24 hours with 22 others injured, according to the health ministry.

Israel’s genocidal war has killed at least 73,283 people and wounded 173,864 since October 7, 2023, a statement said.

Daily attacks since the “ceasefire” agreed on last October have killed at least 1,158 people and wounded 3,756.

 

New UK PM Burnham and his pledge to address Israel’s war on Gaza

Andy Burnham, the Labor politician taking over as the United Kingdom’s prime minister on Monday, has said his party “didn’t get it right” on Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and “needs to do better”.

He issued an apology in July for his party’s stance on the war and says he will increase pressure on Israel.

Burnham described the “unbearable suffering” in Gaza following years of relentless bombardment by Israeli forces as a “scar on our collective conscience”. However, he stopped short of calling Israel’s deadly assault and punishing blockade a genocide.

Hamas names Khalil al-Hayya as new leader

The Palestinian group says al-Hayya has been chosen as the head of Hamas’s political bureau succeeding Yahya Sinwar who was killed in Gaza by the Israeli army in October 2024.

Al-Hayya rose in importance after the killings of top Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Sinwar in Gaza, and military commander Mohammed Deif last year.

Sinwar, who had taken charge in Gaza after Haniyeh’s death, was killed later in 2024.

Occupied West Bank World Cup screening halted after killings

A public screening of the FIFA World Cup final in the occupied West Bank was halted after news that two Palestinians had been killed.

Ahmad Adel Abu Mukho and Ouda Abdul Rahim Abu Salha were killed by Israeli forces after they confronted colonists who attacked the town of Deir Jarir.

Khalil al-Hayya: New Hamas leader with deep ties to its military

Khalil al-Hayya is a 65-year-old old-timer in Hamas. He’s risen through the ranks of the movement, having been elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council, or parliament of the Palestinian Authority in 2006, winning elections for membership in Hamas’s political leadership and having been the deputy of Ismail Haniyeh who was killed by Israel.

Al-Hayya’s four sons were killed in several attacks by Israel over the years. This is a man viewed as having enjoyed long-time support from the military wing of the movement. A political figure for sure, but certainly someone who can command the military wing, and that was his advantage when he was the Hamas chief negotiator, who reached that agreement for the so-called ceasefire in Gaza back in October 2025.

Al-Hayya has been the subject of at least two attempted assassinations by Israel. Israel has not officially reacted to this election, but he is described in Israel as a hawk, as someone who is closer to Iran than the Arab governments, than even Turkey.

This is an election process that is very intricate. It’s taken months for the various layers to conclude in the occupied West Bank, in Gaza, inside Israeli prisons and in the diaspora, all culminating in this moment.

At least 3 killed in Israeli drone strike on southern Gaza

Reporters in Gaza, citing medical officials at Nasser Medical Complex, report at least three Palestinians have been killed and several others wounded after an Israeli drone attack.

The latest attack comes after a vehicle was hit in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip.

A so-called “ceasefire” agreed last October has not stopped the Israeli army’s attacks on the war battered Palestinian territory. Nothing is off limits including homes, tents sheltering the displaced, and even funerals.

Elderly Palestinian wounded in colonist attack in occupied West Bank

An elderly Palestinian woman has been wounded in Israeli colonist attacks in the occupied West Bank town of Masafer Yatta, reports Wafa news agency.

Colonists attacked houses of the Musa Rabi family, in the town south of Hebron, detaining elders Mohammad Rabi and Nasr al-Nawajah.

Khadra Rab’i, the elderly Palestinian woman, was wounded after being assaulted by colonists.

Netanyahu ‘will not be arrested while in the US’, says Trump

The Israeli PM “will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America”, Trump says in a social media post.

Trump’s post comes after New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani said earlier he was consulting with city authorities over the possibility of arresting Netanyahu if he visits the city for the United Nations General Assembly in September.

At least one killed in Israeli drone strike in central Gaza

One person has been killed by an Israeli drone in Gaza, our colleagues on the ground are reporting.

This attack targeted a motorcycle on Salah al-Din Street in central Gaza.

Earlier, we reported that at least three Palestinians were killed after a vehicle was hit in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Israeli army claims to have killed two PIJ members in Gaza

The Israeli army claims to have killed two Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) members in separate strikes in Gaza.

In a statement, the army said it identified one of those killed as Taher Ahmad Salem Abd al-Wahed and the other as Salah Subhi Salah Qatrawi.

PIJ has not immediately commented on these claims yet.

At least three killed in Israeli strike on northern Gaza

At least three people have been killed and several wounded in an Israeli air strike on Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

Earlier, one person was killed in an Israeli drone strike targeting a motorcycle on Salah al-Din Street in central Gaza.

At least three Palestinians were also reported killed after an Israeli drone struck a vehicle in the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The continued killing comes despite a so-called ceasefire that was implemented in October 2025. Since then, more than 1,100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces.

Happened in the occupied West Bank

Wafa news agency reports:

• Israeli colonists attacked the Ras al-Ahmar community, southeast of Tubas, assaulting Palestinian residents.
• They also detained the driver of a sewage disposal vehicle on the outskirts of al-Lubban ash-Sharqiya, south of Nablus, before Israeli forces arrived and detained more than 10 Palestinian men.
• The Israeli army detained three Palestinian farmers while they were working on agricultural land in the al-Baqi’a Plain, east of Tammun in the northern Jordan Valley.
• Israeli forces then detained five Palestinians, including two children, during a raid on the village of Kisan, east of Bethlehem.
