Amnesty director highlights mass casualties and calls for ICJ compliance in Gaza

Erika Guevara Rosas, Amnesty International’s senior director for research, advocacy, policy, and campaigns, says a mass funeral held for 112 members of the al-Hasayna and Abu Sharia families in Gaza City is a “chilling illustration of a pattern of Israeli attacks that have wiped out entire multi-generational families”.

In a post on X, Rosas says the recovery of victims’ remains from the November 23, 2023, strike – which reportedly killed more than 300 Palestinians – has taken months due to Israeli restrictions on bringing in the heavy equipment needed to clear rubble, beneath which thousands of bodies are still believed to be trapped.

“Israel must urgently allow access to Gaza for UN bodies and independent human rights investigators to preserve evidence, in line with the ICJ’s orders,” she added, using the acronym for the International Court of Justice.

Israeli raid in West Bank’s Qalandiya injures 51 Palestinians

A “large-scale” Israeli raid in the Qalandiya refugee camp in the occupied West Bank has injured at least 51 Palestinians, the Jerusalem Governorate told Al Jazeera.

Israeli forces demolished shops near the Qalandiya checkpoint on Thursday, before imposing a curfew on the neighboring town of Kafr Aqab and sealing off roads linking the area to Jerusalem.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said 35 people were hospitalized after severe beatings and six more were treated at the scene. One person was hit by a rubber-coated steel bullet. Six others suffered tear gas inhalation.

Happened in the occupied West Bank

Israeli forces and colonists continued a campaign of arrests, raids, demolitions, and land seizures across the occupied West Bank on Thursday, the Wafa news agency reports, while an extensive military operation entered its second day in the Qalandiya refugee camp and Kafr Aqab.

Here are some of the reported incidents:

• Israeli forces detained 17 Palestinians across the West Bank, including five in Hebron, a 17-year-old in Tayasir near Tubas, a young man in Tulkarem arrested for the second time in a week, four people (including a woman) in the Nablus area, three in Jericho, and three in Ramallah. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society also reported that forces interrogated more than 60 citizens on the ground during the raid on Qalandiya, converting several homes into temporary interrogation centers.
• Israeli troops continued a 22-hour-plus operation in the Qalandiya refugee camp and Kafr Aqab, imposing a curfew, blocking roads, and destroying parts of a residence with explosives. The Red Crescent reported 48 injuries in the area, including 35 from severe beatings and one from a rubber-coated bullet. Medical crews were repeatedly blocked from reaching patients. Elsewhere, a 14-year-old was shot in the lower back during a raid in central Jenin, and an 80-year-old man was hospitalized after being beaten by forces in Turmus Aya.
• In Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron, armed colonists attacked Khirbet Tuba, injuring six residents – including a woman and two children – before burning five homes and destroying solar panels. In the northern Jordan Valley, colonists continued fencing off land belonging to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem in Hammamat al-Maleh. In Ramallah, colonists attacked a family east of Taybeh, injuring three people, and threw stones at a home near al-Mughayyir.
• Israeli forces demolished a 100-square-metre (1,070sq ft) home in Birein, east of Hebron, and issued demolition notices for multistory residential buildings and livestock shelters in Jaba, north of Jerusalem. Army bulldozers uprooted decades-old olive trees in Zabuba and Arbuna, leveled farmland in Battir near Bethlehem, and converted a home in Yabad into a military post. Israeli authorities also issued military orders to seize or uproot vegetation across more than 310 dunams (31 hectares or 77 acres) of land in the Jenin governorate.

Hamas slams Israeli aggression on Qalandiya camp

Haroun Nasser al-Din, a member of the political bureau and head of the Jerusalem Affairs Office of Hamas, has condemned the latest Israeli attacks against towns and camps in occupied Jerusalem, particularly the Qalandiya camp, for the second consecutive day.

In a statement released by the group, al-Din said the Israeli attacks “will not succeed in breaking the will of the Jerusalemites and their attachment to their land and holy sites”.

He added: “What the occupied city of Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank are being subjected to – widespread arrests, acts of repression, destruction, demolition, the conversion of homes into military barracks, and organised terrorism by settler militias – is a practical application of the occupation’s criminal and fascist plans aimed at annexation and imposing a new Judaisation reality.”

He emphasized that the escalating crimes of the Israeli enemy and its colonists will only drive the Palestinian people to greater steadfastness and adherence to the option of resistance.

The Hamas official called on the Palestinian people to unite and stand together against the attacks.

Israeli forces storm West Bank town of Tammun, Wafa reports

Israeli forces have stormed the town of Tammun, south of Tubas in the occupied West Bank today, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

According to local sources, troops entered the town with several military vehicles while infantry units spread throughout its neighborhoods and raided a house.

No arrests or injuries have been reported so far, Wafa said.

Israeli troops withdraw from Qalandiya

The Israeli army has withdrawn from the Qalandiya refugee camp and the town of Kafr Aqab following a two-day military operation, according to sources on the ground.

Forces began withdrawing from inside the houses they had converted into military barracks and interrogation centres before leaving all the alleys and streets.

The Jerusalem Governorate confirmed that during the military operation, more than 50 Palestinians sustained injuries, and more than 70 were arrested.

The governorate added that several shops and facilities were demolished, and the contents of dozens of homes were vandalized.

Israeli colonists target Bedouin family east of Ramallah

Israeli colonists have attacked the Bedouin community of Kaabneh, east of the town of Taybeh, near Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reports.

The colonists stormed the house of Naif Kaabneh, accompanied by their herd of livestock. This morning’s attack comes a day after colonists launched a violent attack on Kaabneh’s family, Wafa said.

On Thursday evening, colonists assaulted Kaabneh’s family, resulting in injuries to three of them, while Israeli forces arrested one of them, Suleiman Kaabneh.

For about three years, the family has been subjected to daily attacks by settler gangs, but during the last three months, the pace of these attacks has escalated.

Israeli colonists carry out provocative tours across Jenin Governorate

Israeli colonists have carried out provocative tours today in several locations in the Jenin Governorate, during which they closed roads, stormed villages, and spread out on bypass roads, Wafa reports.

Colonists stormed the village of Jalbun, east of Jenin, while the bypass road east of the city saw an intensive deployment of colonists who chased cars, causing tension and impacting the movement of Palestinians, the Palestinian news agency said.

At dawn, colonists also stormed the Burqin municipal park.

Palestinians injured after Israeli soldiers and settlers attack West Bank villages

A number of Palestinians were injured, one by bullet shrapnel, after Israeli colonists, accompanied by soldiers, raided the village of Beit Furik in the occupied West Bank.

Palestinian news agency Wafa reports that colonists smashed a surveillance camera and attacked homes, while Israeli forces assaulted several residents and beat and detained one Palestinian man. Israeli forces prevented an ambulance from accessing the injured.

Wafa also reports that colonists launched an attack on the village of Khirbet al-Himma, forcing some resident out of their homes.

Palestinians in Qalandiya traumatised by brutal two-day Israeli raid

Palestinians who are here say that they’ve been threatened by Israeli soldiers, that’s why they can’t speak. They can’t talk about the intimidation and about the fear they felt throughout the two days [Israeli forces] raided the Qalandiya refugee camp.

People are telling, every house, every family has a difficult story that they’ve experienced during this Israeli raid. They say that they’ve been intimidated, they’ve been assaulted, and that Israeli forces have detained people in large numbers, interrogated them, as well as arresting women and children.

The total of those who have been subjected to arrest and detention exceeds 70 people, according to local sources, and 51 have been injured by the Israeli forces – the majority of them have witnessed severe assaults by the Israel force.

They’re saying that while the Israeli forces have withdrawn, they can come back any moment. And that’s why we see many of them trying to get groceries, trying to save up, because they don’t know when the next raid might happen.

And in the back of their mind, they have the images that they’ve seen from Jenin, Tulkarem, Nur Shams refugee camp, who have been forcibly displaced by Israeli forces in early 2025. And they fear they could be next.

This is the nature of the intimidation that the Israelis want to inflict on people.

Israeli forces block off only road to Ya’bad in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have blocked the only road into the occupied West Bank town of Ya’bad with earth mounds.

The closure on Friday night cut the town’s only access route, which connects it to the nearby village of Kufeirat, forcing patients, students and workers onto longer roads, local sources told the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Video of Israeli forces erecting the blockage were circulated by Palestinian social media news accounts.
