Israeli military detains 3 civilians who crossed Syrian border

The Israeli military says three Israeli civilians crossed the border into Syrian territory from the Jabal al-Sheikh (Mount Hermon) area overnight on Tuesday.

In a statement, the military said troops were deployed to locate the trio and return them to Israeli territory, before handing them over to police.

The incident comes amid a rise in unauthorized crossings by Israelis into Syria. Israeli Army Radio reported last month, citing military data, that at least 17 such incidents had been recorded in recent months, with more than 150 people apprehended and handed over to police.

Despite the repeated incidents, Army Radio reported that only three cases had been transferred by police to prosecutors for consideration of charges.

 

   

Syria condemns Colombia’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over occupied Golan Heights

Syria has condemned Colombia’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, saying the move constituted a flagrant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions.

The country’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that it “categorically rejects and condemns” the Colombian position and affirmed that the area “is an inseparable part of its territory”.

Syria noted that international support for its position on the territory has grown, with the number of states backing a UN General Assembly resolution entitled “The Syrian Golan” rising to 123 in 2025 from 97 in 2024, reflecting what it called “continued international support for Syria’s right to recover its occupied territory”.

UNSC Resolution 497

Resolution 497 (1981) declares that Israel’s decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan Heights has no legal validity under international law.

Reaffirming the principle that territory may not be acquired by force, the Security Council determines that the Israeli measure is null and void and without international legal effect. The resolution demands that Israel rescind its decision immediately and confirms that the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the protection of civilian persons in time of war continue to apply to the Syrian territory occupied since June 1967.

 

Saudi Arabia condemns Colombia’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over occupied Golan Heights

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry says Colombia’s step “contradicts international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions”, and violates UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which deemed Israel’s imposition of its laws and administration on Syria’s Golan Heights “null and void and without legal effect”.

“Saudi Arabia stresses that such positions do not contribute to achieving peace, but rather constitute a departure from the established international position regarding the occupied Syrian Golan,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added that the move “entrenches the logic of imposing fait accompli and undermines efforts made to achieve peace in the region”.

It reiterated Saudi Arabia’s firm position that the Golan “is occupied Syrian Arab land” and that any measures aimed at changing its legal status “do not create a right or confer legitimacy”. It called on Colombia to review its position and adhere to international law.

 

   

Palestine condemns Colombian recognition of Israel’s claim over occupied Golan Heights

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has condemned Colombia’s recognition of Israel’s claim over the occupied Golan Heights, saying the region “is an inseparable part of Syria”.

The ministry said on X that the Colombian government’s position is “a flagrant violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and legitimate international resolutions”.

 

   

Turkey slams Colombia’s decision to back Israeli claims over Syria’s Golan Heights

Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has joined other states in condemning Colombia’s decision to back Israeli claims over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

In a statement, the ministry said Turkey strongly condemns “the statement made by Colombia to legitimize the Israeli occupation of the Golan Heights, which is an integral part of Syria”.

“We reiterate our call for the international community to do its part to end Israel’s occupation of southern Syria, including the Golan Heights, and its attacks targeting the country’s sovereignty and stability,” it said.

 

   

Qatar condemns Colombia’s backing of Israeli claims over Golan Heights

Qatar has joined a growing list of countries condemning Colombia’s decision to back Israeli claims over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry reiterated its “principled and unwavering position that the Golan Heights is occupied Arab territory, emphasizing the need for Israel to comply with international law and withdraw from all occupied Arab territories, including the Golan Heights” in a post on X.

“Assisting the occupation in disregarding relevant UN resolutions concerning the occupied Golan Heights, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, will not alter the fact that the Golan Heights is occupied Arab territory, and that the imposition of Israeli laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the Golan is null and void and has no legal effect”.

Earlier on Tuesday, Colombia officially recognized Israel’s claim over the territory, just days after far-right President Abelardo de la Espriella took power.
