Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa rules out military action in Lebanon

The Syrian president has set the record straight, making it clear that his country has no intention of intervening in Lebanon militarily.

Instead, he said he supports strong state institutions in Lebanon, and that relations should be established through the rule of law—an approach Damascus has engaged with Beirut on consistently over the past several months.

The two countries share a border and other shared issues of concern, including refugees and the threats of narcotics smuggling as well as weapons smuggling, which the Syrian government has been active in preventing – intercepting weapons that were being smuggled by Iranian-backed militias in Iraq to Hezbollah in Lebanon.

The Syrian president said any instability or threat to Lebanon’s stability would cause a spillover into Syria, and that’s something he didn’t want to see.

Israeli forces launch new incursion into Syria’s Quneitra

The army has launched a fresh offensive into the countryside of Quneitra province, detaining a civilian after raiding his home, according to Syria’s official SANA news agency.

SANA said several Israeli military vehicles entered the village of Western Samdaniyah on Sunday in the northern countryside of Quneitra.

The forces raided a house, detained a civilian and later withdrew from the area, the agency said.

Separately, in Daraa province, Israeli forces advanced before dawn towards the villages of Maariyah and Al-Ardah in the Yarmouk Basin area, according to the state-run Alikhbariah TV.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the reported incursions or detention.

For months, southern Syria has witnessed recurring Israeli incursions and attacks, including raids, searches, arrests and the establishment of military checkpoints.

Israeli army says two citizens ‘illegally’ crossed into Syria

Two Israeli citizens arrived in the Hermon area and crossed the border into Syrian territory, according to a military statement.

Israeli forces went to the area, “located the citizens, worked to return them to the country, and detained them”, it said, adding they were handed over to Israeli police for further processing.

The military “strongly condemns the incident, which constitutes another case of serious disruption to operational activity and a danger to the security of forces operating in the area”, the statement said.

The Israeli media identified the two as Israeli settlement activists who seek the establishment of settlements in southern Syria.

Syria condemns attacks targeting Saudi Arabia

Syria has “strongly condemned” the attempted drone attack on oil facilities in Saudi Arabia, a statement posted on X by its Foreign Ministry says.

Damascus called the attack, which Riyadh said was launched by Iran-backed militias from Iraq, a violation of the kingdom’s security and stability and a threat to regional security.

The ministry affirmed Syria’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to protect its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, reiterating its call for respect of states’ sovereignty.
