Interceptor missile explosion heard in southern Lebanon

An explosion has been heard in the Marjayoun plain, southern Lebanon, which was later determined to be caused by an interceptor missile, the country’s National News Agency (NNA) reports.

It added that the sound coincided with Israeli media reports that air defence systems had been activated in the city of Kiryat Shmona, near the shared border, but that the circumstances of the incident were still under investigation.

NNA reported earlier this morning that a drone had been flying over the southern suburbs.

Lebanon’s president departs for Washington to meet Trump

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has departed for Washington following an invitation from President Trump.

The presidency in Beirut said in a statement that a bilateral summit will be held at the White House, “addressing the situation in Lebanon and the possible means to consolidate the ceasefire, restore security and stability to Lebanon in general and the south in particular, the withdrawal of Israel from the Lebanese areas it occupies, and the extension of the state’s authority over all areas”.

Lebanese soldier killed after ‘suspicious object’ explodes in car

The Lebanese army says one soldier has been killed after a “suspicious object in an army vehicle” exploded in the town of al-Mansouri, Tyre, the country’s National News Agency (NNA) reports.

It added that an officer and a soldier were wounded in the explosion, and an investigation was ongoing to determine the details of the incident.

Beirut MP calls out Israeli colonist movement in southern Lebanon

Melhem Khalaf, a Greek Orthodox member of parliament from Beirut, says the repeated entry of Israeli colonists into Lebanese territories occupied by the Israeli army is “not a mere border incident, but a direct assault on Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a dangerous attempt to impose a new reality by force”.

In a statement reported by the country’s National News Agency, Khalaf said the fact that civilians are involved “does not change the nature of these actions” backed by the Israeli forces.

Khalaf condemned the “aggressive actions” and called on the UN and the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to take immediate action to stop the colonists, officially document the incidents, and report them to the UN Security Council.

Why we're never speak and write about "settlers" and "settlements" when it comes to the Israelis and those who want to be.

A settler is someone who leaves his/her country to build a new life elsewhere with no desire, and without having the intention to take possession of the host country's territory.

A colonist is someone who leaves his/her country with the desire, and having the intention to take possession of the host country's territory by force first then start a new life.

Israeli military claims attack on Hezbollah fighters in southern Lebanon

Israel’s military has said its forces carried out a strike earlier today against Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon’s Tebnit area.

In a statement, the Israeli military claimed the Hezbollah members were “operating drones and taking cover” near an area where Israeli troops were positioned, which it said was a violation of the ceasefire understanding.

Israel has regularly carried out deadly attacks in Lebanon during the “ceasefire”.

Israel says explosive that killed Lebanese soldier in al-Mansouri did not belong to its forces

Israel’s military has said it was not behind an explosive device that killed a Lebanese soldier earlier today in al-Mansouri.

As we reported earlier, Lebanon’s army said the soldier was killed and another wounded when a “suspicious object in an army vehicle” exploded in the southern Lebanese town.

In a statement, Israel’s military said a Lebanese army vehicle drove over an explosive device in the area, which lies within a so-called “security zone” along the border.

The Israeli military claimed the device in question did not belong to the Israeli military and that Israeli soldiers had not been in the area recently, adding that the device was probably set there by Hezbollah.

We are keeping a list of Lebanese soldiers, including high ranking army officers, killed by Israelis.

They say "did not belong to its forces," which can be interpreted as the explosive didn't belong to them but still having used it to paint that Hezbollah was behind.

It reminds us of weapon cache they are claiming to have found wherever in Gaza or Lebanon, while the displayed weaponry may have been seized during previous Israeli wars.

Hezbollah doesn't attack the Lebanese army as it would then lead to a civil war. With such assassination, we strongly believe that the Israelis are trying to inflict such war.

Lebanese president arrives in Washington for Trump meeting

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and First Lady Nehmat Aoun have arrived in Washington for an official visit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump.

It is the first visit to Washington by a Lebanese head of state since Michel Sleiman met then-President Barack Obama in 2009.

The presidential plane landed at Joint Base Andrews at 3pm local time (19:00 GMT) on Saturday, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported. The couple were received by US State Department protocol officials, the base commander, Lebanese Ambassador Nada Hamadeh Maawad, and other Lebanese diplomatic staff.

Aoun is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday and is due to hold talks with Trump at the White House on Tuesday, NNA said. Additional meetings with US senators and administration officials are also planned.
