Lebanese president to visit White House on July 21

Reuters reports that the White House has invited Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to visit the US on July 21.

The agency cited an unnamed White House official.

The report came after Aoun told Lebanese media that he would visit Washington, DC, this month to advance the US-brokered framework agreement with Israel, which aimed to end months of fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

 

   

Israeli military says Hezbollah fighter killed in close-range clash

Israeli military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ella Waweya says a Hezbollah fighter has been killed in southern Lebanon after he opened fire at Israeli troops from inside a building in the Bint Jbeil area.

Waweya said the killing took place yesterday as reserve troops from the Yiftah Brigade were conducting searches in the same building where a clash took place last Thursday, during which an Israeli reservist was seriously wounded.

She said the troops returned fire, killing the Hezbollah fighter, and that no Israeli soldiers were injured in yesterday’s exchange.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reports that Israeli warplanes launched three waves of overnight air raids in southern Lebanon.

The attacks hit the area between the towns of Beit Yahoun, Kunin, and Braachit, in the Bint Jbeil district, according to NNA.

 

   

Trump says he thinks Israel will withdraw troops from southern Lebanon

The US president says he expects Israeli forces to leave southern Lebanon, while meeting Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

“I think they are going to. I think they want to,” Trump told reporters in Ankara, without providing a timeline or further details.
