1,000 days of war in Gaza
It’s been 1,000 days since Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began, after the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel.
In that time, Israeli forces have killed at least 73,066 Palestinians and wounded 173,514 others in Gaza.
Here is a look at the situation in the Palestinian enclave on the 1,000th day of war:
- Israeli air attacks and artillery have reduced since the October 2025 “ceasefire”, but they continue almost daily.
- Gaza’s health ministry counted 1,053 dead Palestinians since the so-called ceasefire, including over 350 Palestinian women and children. More than 3,400 people have been wounded during the same period.
- The United Nations on Wednesday warned that Israel’s expansion of its territorial control in Gaza increases deadly risks for Palestinian civilians in “areas lacking clear demarcation on the ground”.
- All of Gaza’s border crossings remain tightly restricted or closed by Israeli forces, meaning the territory remains blockaded by Israel.
- The UN said last month that 17 hospitals are still not functional because of a lack of basic supplies coming into Gaza due to the blockade.
- Many Palestinians say they are beyond their capacity after 1,000 days of war.
- Hundreds of thousands are sheltering in vast tent camps without basic utilities, or live in the rubble of bombed-out buildings.
- Famine conditions were declared in Gaza City last August, as international health and food security experts predicted.
- The Israeli military body responsible for coordinating civilian affairs in Gaza, COGAT, said that “the quantities of food that are being brought in far exceed the nutritional needs of the Gazan civilian population”.

"COGAT, said that “the quantities of food that are being brought in far exceed the nutritional needs of the Gazan civilian population”.
In 2010 and 2012, we've found documents containing data showing that COGAT was resorting to a calorie scheme.

"Abandonment, neglect": Israelis mark 1,000 days since October 7
Israel is commemorating 1,000 days since the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks with a range of events across the country, including marches and protests, and observing a minute of silence.
The commemorative day was organized by the October council, a group of people who lost family members that day, survivors, and some former captives.
Some displayed a banner reading, “1,000 days of abandonment, neglect, cover-up and failure”, while others waved yellow flags and blocked traffic. Protesters also attempted to disrupt access to the Knesset.
At least two demonstrations will take place later in the day in Tel Aviv outside the Defence Ministry headquarters and another at “Hostages Square”.

Most Israelis want an independent probe into October 7 attack
Polls conducted in October 2025 show three-out-of-four Israelis want to see an independent, state-led investigation into the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack.
This is because there’s a lot of anxiety among Israelis that a similar scenario could take place again, either originating from Gaza or other areas.
While certain security agencies have conducted different probes, people still want to see accountability – something Netanyahu has repeatedly blocked.
Why? Because he says any probe would be “biased”. Netanyahu has been saying the judiciary is against him and the results of such a national probe would not benefit him.
He’s also argued that Israel should only probe the circumstances of the October 7 attack after Israel’s wars in the region have ended. As we’ve been seeing, Netanyahu has been pushing for one war after another.
All of Netanyahu’s opponents are going to try to use this moment to lobby against him to secure votes for themselves as they continue to ask for a national probe.

"...would not benefit him."
This is a stance which the Israelis already have when it comes to:
- international law
- ceasefire agreements on Gaza and Lebanon,
- the Memorandum of Understanding
- the US framework on Lebanon
Reasons why they always reject, ignore and violate.

At least 5,000 more Israelis move to communities near Gaza
Another 5,000 Israelis have moved to southern areas near Gaza 1,000 days after the October 7, 2023, attacks, a news report says.
At least 62,000 people lived there before the Hamas-led raid, The Times of Israel reported. About 90 percent of residents have returned, and Israel’s government aims to have 124,000 people living there by 2030.
Israel’s Tekuma Directorate – which has been “tasked with rehabilitating the Gaza border area” following the October 7 attacks – says it has implemented more than 1,000 projects in the area.
These include “strengthening security, expanding services for community health and resilience, investing capital into agriculture, and offering incentives to factories to move to the region”, according to the Times.

Hamas calls for Arab summit on Israel’s takeover plan for Gaza
Hazem Qassem, the Palestinian group’s spokesperson, has called on the Arab League to convene an emergency meeting as Israeli politicians continue to publicly discuss forcibly displacing Gaza’s entire population.
Qassem said Israel’s expansionist actions target not only the Palestinian people but also other Arab nations, particularly Egypt.
On Wednesday, Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said the country now controls nearly 70 percent of the Gaza Strip, and intends to expand that to “100 percent”.

Israeli settlers storm Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque
Israeli settlers have forced their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem’s Old City under the protection of Israeli police.
Palestine’s official Wafa news agency reported the settlers “entered its courtyards and performed Talmudic rituals”.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound sits on a plateau in East Jerusalem, which Israel captured in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed in a move not recognized by most in the international community.
For Muslims, the compound hosts Islam’s third-holiest site, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Dome of the Rock, a seventh-century structure believed to be where the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven.

Billions flow between EU institutions and Israel despite genocidal war in Gaza
Public institutions in European Union countries are signing profitable contracts with Israeli companies despite Israel’s long track record of war crimes in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank, data collected by Statewatch show.
The figures showed Spain, among Europe’s most vocal critics of Israel, agreed to 14 contracts worth almost 227 million euros ($257m) from January 2022 to July 2025.
The majority of that sum – 207 million euros ($235m) – stems from an April 2024 contract between the Spanish Defense Ministry and Rafael for “aerial combat systems”. Spanish police forces also bought bullet-resistant vests from the Israeli company Marom Dolphin.
Overall, the data show that public institutions in EU member states signed 194 contracts worth nearly 2.7 billion euros ($3.1bn) with Israeli companies.

Gaza rubble clearance could take more than 140 years at current pace
More than 80 percent of Gaza’s buildings have been destroyed since October 2023, leaving an estimated 68 million metric tons of rubble — the equivalent of 11 Great Pyramids of Giza.
Less than 0.5 percent has been cleared so far, and at the current pace, the UN estimates full removal could take more than 140 years.

OIC condemns Knesset bill banning call to prayer in Israel
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned a bill passed by the Israeli Knesset that would ban the call to prayer over loudspeakers by mosques in Israel.
The OIC said it “considers this to be a null and void measure and a legislative crime of a discriminatory and racist nature, as well as a flagrant violation of freedom of religion and worship and of the cultural and religious rights guaranteed by the principles of international law and international human rights law”.
The bill, which passed 50-36 in the 120-member Israeli legislative body, mandates that no sound system may be installed or operated in any mosque without explicit prior authorization.
The legislation must pass three additional readings before becoming law.
The OIC added that the bill “represents a dangerous escalation within the context of a series of racist Israeli decisions, legislation and measures aimed at restricting the Palestinian presence and targeting Arab and Islamic identity; it also constitutes a direct attack on the sanctity of religious rites and Islamic holy sites”.

What does international law say when the Israelis want to ban prayer calls?
International law considers restrictions on the Muslim call to prayer (the adhan) to be a severe infringement on the right to freedom of religion.
Treaties such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) protect the right of individuals and communities to freely manifest their religion or beliefs, including through communal practices and worship. Bans that target a specific religious group's auditory traditions are widely classified by human rights experts as violations of freedom of worship.
International Humanitarian Law dictates that the Israeli occupying power (in East Jerusalem) does not hold sovereign rights and must generally preserve the existing laws and religious status quo of the occupied territory. Enforcing sweeping bans or confiscating loudspeaker equipment in these areas is widely regarded by international law bodies as a breach of Israeli responsibilities as an occupier.

Israeli society deeply divided 1,000 days after October 7 attacks
A thousand days that have only served to polarize Israeli society more, which was already being torn apart between the pro- and anti-Netanyahu camps.
What happened after the October 7 attacks is that those camps became even more entrenched. Even while the crisis was happening, before all the captives were released, we saw that polarization even extended to the families of the captives, who found support among Israelis, but who were also confronted by pro-government rallies that considered their calls for accountability to be unpatriotic.
So these memorials, these protests, these marches that are being held today are only a reminder of how polarized society is in Israel, how divided they are over the conduct of this government and its unwillingness to assume any responsibility for what happened on October 7, leading up to it and everything after that.
