Canada’s ShaMaran Petroleum says it stops oil production in northern Iraq oilfields

ShaMaran Petroleum says production and pipeline exports at the Atrush and Sarsang fields in northern Iraq have been “temporarily shut in due to the deterioration of the regional security environment”.

“Together with our joint venture partners, the company is closely monitoring the regional security situation in order to protect our field personnel and assets, and we will restart production when deemed safe to do so,” it added.

US identifies soldier killed disarming a drone in Iraq

The US military identified a soldier who was killed while trying to disarm an Iranian drone in Iraq as a 30-year-old from North Carolina state.

It said it’s investigating the death of Sergeant Michael Emmanuel Swinton of Fayetteville during a controlled detonation on Sunday at an air base in Irbil in northern Iraq.

Swinton will get a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge, and be promoted to staff sergeant, the military said in a statement.

Swinton’s wife, Mia Gonzalez-Swinton, posted on social media that she was informed of his death on Sunday. The couple have a young daughter.

“I will never recover from this, you should be home. We had so many plans for when you got back, I’m sick to my stomach,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

Two US soldiers were killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks on Friday. They were the first US troop deaths from direct Iranian fire since the opening days of the war.

Iraq’s Erbil airport announces temporary suspension of flights

Iraq’s Erbil international airport has announced the temporary suspension of flights.

“Flights to and from Erbil airport have been temporarily suspended due to a wave of attacks targeting the city of Erbil and its airspace,” the Iraqi News Agency reported airport director Ahmed Hoshyar as saying.

“Flights will resume as soon as the security situation stabilizes and returns to normal,” added Hoshyar.

Over the weekend, a US soldier was killed while trying to disarm an Iranian drone at an airbase in the northern Iraqi city.
