Iraq PM says country will not be used as launchpad for attacks on neighbors
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi says the country will not allow its territory or airspace to be used to launch attacks against neighboring nations, the Iraqi News Agency reports.
Speaking during a late-night visit to Iraq’s Air Defence Command Operations Centre, al-Zaidi discussed plans to enhance the country’s air defence capacity while emphasizing efforts to protect national security.
“Iraq is working to protect its national security and sovereignty, and it will not allow its territory or airspace to be used as a launching pad for any aggression against neighbouring countries,” the report quoted the prime minister as saying.
“Iraqi skies and sovereignty are inviolable, and any violation of its airspace or infringement upon its security will not be tolerated from any quarter.”

Iraq announces seizure of locally manufactured drones
The Iraqi Interior Ministry says it has seized 20 locally manufactured drones and arrested four people, according to the Iraqi News Agency.
“During interrogation, they confessed to possessing these drones for the purpose of trafficking them,” the ministry said in a statement.
Baghdad has been conducting efforts to tighten its security and is committed to not allowing its territory or airspace to be used to launch attacks against neighbouring nations, the government has said.

High-level Iraqi security delegation arrives in Riyadh
An Iraqi security delegation has arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to conduct high-level talks on regional security and shared strategic interests, according to the official Iraqi News Agency.
The visit comes a week after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said that Baghdad will not allow its territory to be used for actions targeting other countries. Iran-aligned armed groups have repeatedly launched drone and missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia during the US-Israel war on Iran.
The Iraqi delegation is led by Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari, director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. According to Iraqi media, the team includes top military officials, including the heads of intelligence and the air force.
Discussions with Saudi officials are expected to focus on recent attacks targeting the kingdom, drone-related security threats and measures to strengthen cross-border security cooperation between the two nations.

Saudi, Iraq discuss military cooperation, regional developments
Saudi Arabia’s defence minister has discussed military cooperation with an Iraqi armed forces chief.
Khalid bin Salman and First Lieutenant General Staff Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, director of the office of the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces “affirmed the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation between our two countries in a manner that serves our common interests and achieves the security and stability of the region”.
Salman added in a message on social media that both countries would continue to foster good relations, pledging that Saudi Arabia “will always stand with Iraq to support its security and stability, and its development and prosperity, for the benefit of Iraq and its brotherly people”.
Iraqi authorities are undertaking a push to make the state the sole holder of weapons, after Iran-linked groups carried out attacks on Saudi Arabia late last month.
