More than half of Gaza’s population lacks access to water: UN

Most of the population across Gaza lacks sufficient access to water, sanitation, and hygiene, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports.

More than 1.3 million people in Gaza, or more than half of the enclave’s population, have access to less than 6 litres (1.6 gallons) of water per person per day for drinking and cooking. According to humanitarian standards, the minimum amount of water needed in an emergency is 15 litres (4 gallons) per day for drinking, washing and cooking.

Another 700,000 people in Gaza, representing more than one third of the population, have access to less than 9 litres (2.4 gallons) of water per person per day. OCHA pointed out that this compromises their ability to maintain hygiene, clean homes, and meet children’s needs.

“People face overcrowding at water collection points and lack enough containers to transport water back to their homes, a task that is often left to children,” the UN agency said.

Three in every four people in Gaza rely on water trucks, with humanitarian partners supplying more than 2,500 collection points daily and more than 100 displacement sites across Gaza last month.

OCHA added that only half of all households in Gaza have access to basic sanitation or private facilities, while more than 900,000 people report being exposed to rubbish accumulating in residential areas.

Hamas backs Iranian position that all wars in region should end

The Palestinian group has welcomed the recent remarks by Mohsen Rezaei, the newly appointed secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, who on Tuesday called for a “region-wide ceasefire, including in Lebanon and Gaza”.

Rezaei added that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until the conditions were met.

Hamas’s Arab and Islamic Relations Office said in an official statement that ending the wars would serve “the best interests of the region, its peoples and their future”, while the continuation of the wars “only serves the Zionist enemy’s plans, which are based on dismantling the region, destabilising it and depleting its resources”.

Gaza death toll rises

Israel has killed at least one person and injured seven in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

The Israeli attacks have killed 1,260 people and injured 4,154 since last year’s “ceasefire”, the ministry added.

Since October 2023, when Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza began, at least 73,389 Palestinians have been killed and 174,266 have been injured, the statement said.

Israel killed head of police force, says Gaza’s Ministry of Interior

On Thursday, Gaza’s Ministry of Interior confirmed the killing of Colonel Jamal Abu Kamil, head of the Gaza City police force, after an Israeli drone fired three missiles at his vehicle in western Gaza City.

Two other people were critically wounded in the strike.

Abu Kamil, 43, was one of two Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes, according to Reuters. Earlier today, an Israeli strike on a motorbike in western Khan Younis killed one person and wounded another. Yesterday, an Israeli drone strike in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza, critically wounded one person, according to Gaza medics.

Israel has continued to carry out near-daily strikes despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025.

Hamas denounces killing of top Gaza police official in Israeli drone attack

Gaza’s Interior Ministry has confirmed that Colonel Jamal Abu Kamil, director of the civil police force in the Gaza governorate, was killed when an Israeli drone struck his vehicle earlier today.

Hamas condemned the killing in a statement, calling it “a continuation of the brutal crimes committed by the occupation against our Palestinian people” and its “pathetic and failed attempts to spread chaos and lawlessness in the Gaza Strip”.

Abu Kamil was one of two Palestinians killed in Israeli strikes today. Israel has continued near-daily strikes despite the ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025, which Gaza’s Health Ministry says has since killed more than 1,250 Palestinians.

Israeli army confirms killing Gaza’s police director

In a statement, the Israeli army claims it “eliminated” a Hamas commander who “infiltrated” Israeli territory during the October 7 attack, naming him as Jamal Abu Kamil.

As we just reported, Gaza’s Interior Ministry confirmed today that Jamal Abu Kamil, the head of the civil police force in the Gaza governorate, was killed in an Israeli strike today, when a drone targeted his vehicle.

The Israeli military claimed he had continued advancing “terror plots” against Israeli forces and civilians throughout the war and in recent weeks, and that he was targeted from the air to remove the threat.

The competing narratives continue a pattern of Israel frequently describing its strikes on Gaza police and security personnel as targeting Hamas fighters or ongoing attack planning, with little evidence provided to substantiate their claims, some of which have been entirely fabricated.

Gaza police deny commander was Hamas fighter

The Israeli army has assassinated Gaza governorate police commander Jamal Abu Kamil, claiming without evidence that he participated in the October 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.

The police in Gaza have released a statement, saying that Abu Kami was “committed to his police duties and has no connection to other activities”, denying all Israeli claims about his other affiliations.

Israeli restrictions on entry of essential supplies to Gaza a ‘policy of attrition’: MSF

Doctors Without Borders, known by its initials, MSF, says in a statement that Israel continues to ban the entry of life-sustaining equipment into Gaza, such as “engine oil and spare parts”, which are needed to “run hospital generators, ambulances, and water pumps”.

MSF said the restrictions are part of a “broader system meant to limit vital services and supplies”.

The organization urged Israel to “immediately lift the blockade and allow for the sustained, unhindered entry of supplies needed to respond to people’s immense needs”.

Thousands of people in Gaza are at “heightened risk of death and severe illness” due to the shortages of access to much-needed aid, according to MSF.

Filipe Ribeiro, MSF head of mission in Palestine, said: “What we are witnessing in Gaza is not a series of isolated shortages; it is a policy of attrition by design.” He added: “These policies do not merely delay aid; they dismantle the very systems people rely on to survive.”

Israeli forces step up West Bank raids and block key checkpoints

Israeli forces have continued their raids and attacks in the occupied West Bank, blocking many Palestinians from travelling, the Wafa news agency reports.

Israeli forces raided Far’un, a Palestinian town in the Tulkarem governorate in the northwestern occupied West Bank.

Local sources told Wafa that Israeli forces also raided the town of Baqa ash-Sharqiyya, taking up positions in its western section. No arrests were reported despite several military vehicles entering the town.

Israeli forces also closed several military checkpoints surrounding the city of Ramallah to outgoing traffic, causing severe congestion and long vehicle queues, Wafa reported.

US citizen says Israeli forces ‘did nothing’ to stop colonist siege of West Bank home

Loai Ridi, an American Palestinian whose brother and 18-year-old nephew are under siege by Israeli colonists in their family home in the village of Qusra in the occupied West Bank, says that his family is shocked by the actions of Israeli forces.

“Basically, the Israeli… forces did nothing to stop the colonists,” he told Al Jazeera from the US state of Ohio.

He said his brother, Qusay, who was trapped in the house, called the Israeli police on the day the colonists built a tent outside.

“About half an hour to an hour later, an [Israeli army] vehicle approached the area, and my brother was shocked when he saw that the [army] started praying behind the colonists in the same tent.”

Ridi said the Israeli military then prevented anyone from reaching his and his neighbors’ homes, situated on a hillside in Qusra. He added that on Wednesday, up to 60 colonists attacked the assembled Israeli forces after they demolished the colonist tent outside the house.

Israeli forces then left the area, he said, leaving the colonists behind, who then continued to besiege his home with his brother and nephew trapped inside.

“This is an Area B designated by the Palestinian authorities, and it is an area for the Palestinians,” he said.

UK condemns escalating colonist violence across occupied West Bank

Sarah MacIntosh, the UK permanent representative to the UN, has told the Security Council (UNSC) that recent attacks by Israeli colonists on Palestinian villages and communities, in some cases alongside Israeli forces, are “appalling”.

“The United Kingdom condemns escalating violence across the West Bank,” MacIntosh told a UNSC meeting on Palestine.

“These are not isolated incidents. In July alone, 13 Palestinians and two Israelis were killed,” she said.

The diplomat said a July report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs “records more than 1,300 colonist-related incidents, affecting over 250 Palestinian communities. Around 900 Palestinians injured, and more than 3,200 displaced, and at least three Israelis have been killed, and 24 injured this year. Children are among those most affected by conflict. They are being exposed to repeated violence, displacement, and disruption due to movement restrictions and military operations”.

“Perpetrators have acted with impunity for too long, and much more must be done to prevent and prosecute acts of violence,” she said, calling on the Israeli government to “fulfil their obligations to protect the Palestinian population of the occupied territory”.

Happened in the occupied West Bank

Israeli forces and colonists have continued a campaign of arrests, raids, demolitions, and land seizures across the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, with at least 10 Palestinians detained, including a journalist, the Wafa news agency reports.

• A Palestinian was detained after Israeli forces raided his house in the Tulkarem suburb of Shuweika.
• Israeli forces using earthmovers demolished 27 commercial, industrial, and agricultural facilities east of Jenin on the pretext that they were built without a permit. Several military vehicles stormed the area, and roads leading to it were cordoned off as the demolition got under way.
• Three Palestinians, including journalist Muhammad Awad, were detained by Israeli forces across various neighbourhoods in Ramallah.
• Three other Palestinians were detained in Israeli raids across towns and villages in Jenin.
• A 16-year-old, Salah Youssef Al-Atrash, was severely beaten by Israeli forces in the village of Artas, south of Bethlehem.
  Israeli colonists besieged three Palestinian families in their homes in the village of Qusra amid an ongoing attempt to seize their land.
• A three-storey house owned by Mahmoud Suleiman Zawahra was demolished by Israeli authorities in the village of al-Masara, south of Bethlehem.
• In Hebron, Israeli forces destroyed a 70-year-old house belonging to a Palestinian resident.
• In Nablus, forces raided the Hands of the Future Generation association in the Jabal Ajram area, west of the city.

‘Platformicide’ of Palestine: Activists struggle to be heard on Meta

Jerusalem-based journalist Faten Elwan has more than 300,000 followers on her Instagram account, a page which regularly covers events in Palestine and documents the Israeli occupation. But now her posts typically get just a few hundred views.

In April 2026, Elwan was on a hike when she discovered her account had been unexpectedly reactivated after a two-month suspension, something she believes was due to her pro-Palestine content.

Her first story back on the platform was of her walk along the sea and reached 30,000 views. Within an hour, the number for later stories had dropped to a few hundred.

She is one of many pro-Palestine account holders who believe they have been “shadow-banned” by Meta, a technique allegedly used by social media companies to restrict the visibility of certain accounts, consequently limiting the number of people who can see their content.

Three Palestinian families besieged in their homes by Israeli colonists

Three Palestinian families in Qusra, in the occupied West Bank, are being besieged inside their homes by Israeli colonists blocking roads and cutting water and electricity.

After two days, the Israeli army evacuated the nearby outpost, but colonists returned within hours.

Israeli forces carry out dawn raids, detain Palestinians across northern West Bank

Israeli forces carried out early morning raids across three towns and villages in the Nablus governorate, the Wafa news agency reports.

Military vehicles entered Burqa, located northwest of Nablus, Qusra to the south, and Salem to the east during the dawn operations, it said.

In Burqa, Israeli troops raided multiple homes, arresting several Palestinians.

Heavy military vehicles accompanied by an armored bulldozer were deployed in Qusra, while patrols searched several neighborhoods and main streets in Salem.

Wafa also reported that Israeli forces detained five Palestinians from the towns of Allar, Seida and Qaffin, north of Tulkarem, at dawn on Thursday.

‘We will not leave our home, no matter what happens,’ Qusra resident says

Aisha Abu Rida, who is among the Palestinians currently besieged inside their homes by Israeli colonists blocking roads and cutting water and electricity in the town of Qusra in the occupied West Bank, says that they are “steadfast” despite the difficulties.

“We are surrounded by Israeli colonists, but we are steadfast, God willing,” Abu Rida said by voice message. “We will not leave our home, no matter what happens.”

“Even if we are martyred, we ask to be buried in our home, so that it will remain a witness to the colonists’ crimes against us and against the Palestinian people,” she added.

Israeli colonists move back into illegal Ganim colony after demolitions

Israeli colonists have moved into the illegal colony of Ganim, east of Jenin, a day after Israeli forces demolished 26 shops in the area.

The colonists raised Israeli flags from the Jalameh checkpoint to the colony, in the occupied West Bank.

Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich on Wednesday boasted about the demolitions, saying they were an “essential step to strengthen the colony and security, which serves as the protective wall of the State of Israel.”

All Israeli colonies in the occupied West Bank, including in East Jerusalem, are illegal under international law, a position reaffirmed in a 2024 International Court of Justice advisory opinion that found Israel’s continued occupation of Palestinian territory unlawful.

Ganim is one of four colonies in the occupied West Bank evacuated in 2005, as part of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s disengagement plan for 25 colonies in Palestinian territories. The Israeli government approved Ganim’s re-establishment last year, together with 19 others.

Israeli army says it dismantled outposts around Qusra and Jalud in West Bank

A military update says troops dismantled “two illegal outposts” on the outskirts of the Qusra and Jalud areas in the occupied West Bank, and confiscated the equipment at the site after arriving in the area overnight, adding that one Israeli was arrested.

The soldiers will carry out defensive missions and patrols to maintain security and protect the area, it added.

Israeli colonists have been besieging homes in the village of Qusra.

Israeli army claims people in West Bank’s Qusra will not be moved from their homes

Troops have been operating in the village of Qusra in Nablus since morning “to protect the residents and maintain security in the area”, the army has said.

Earlier, Qusra residents trapped in their homes told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces raided the village, entered homes, and instructed them to leave. They also said that entrances to Qusra were blocked.

“The forces were instructed to allow residents of the village to remain in their homes,” according to a military update.

The army added that its forces would not operate in the home of a Palestinian family that has been under siege by Israeli colonists for several days.

The colonists in question had established an outpost around the house, which was dismantled earlier, according to an earlier military update.

Colonists remain in the area, according to Israeli media reports.

I just spoke to a lady that we had visited in the Bethlehem area a few minutes ago, and she was telling me that she’s also trapped in her home. She can’t receive her daughters for a visit starting on the weekend because the Israeli colonists have taken over the road.

There are dozens and dozens of illegal colony outposts across the occupied West Bank. They are funded, they’re protected, they’re sanctioned by the Israeli state.

The fact that one place, one village, Qusra in particular, has gained attention, and where the Israeli army seems to be deliberately showing an effort to curb some of those attacks, doesn’t mean that they’re not happening everywhere across the occupied West Bank."

US envoy to Israel denounces colonist siege on Palestinians as ‘terror’

Mike Huckabee has denounced as a “horrific act of terror” a siege by colonists against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank’s Nablus.

Colonists in Nablus’s Qusra village have, since Sunday, blockaded Palestinian homes, including one owned by a US citizen, with residents saying they have been cut off from food and other supplies.

“The actions of those doing this to this family’s home are criminal,” Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador in Jerusalem, wrote on X in response to criticism of the US response.

“Actions by those who carried out this horrific act of terror meant to intimidate and harass this family are disgusting,” he wrote.

“No excuse for such thuggish behaviour,” the envoy added.

Huckabee said Israel had intervened at the request of the United States, its crucial ally.

The remarks are especially striking from Huckabee, an evangelical Christian pastor who, in the past, has embraced Jewish colony in the occupied West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967, and rejected the idea of a Palestinian state.

Palestine condemns settler attacks on Qusra, violence against people returning to Gaza

Palestine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned settler attacks on the town of Qusra, south of Nablus, and attacks by Israeli forces against Palestinians returning to Gaza.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said that “these crimes come within the framework of systematic policies aimed at displacing our Palestinian people and uprooting them from their land, and imposing a reality that serves the plans to annex the West Bank”.

The ministry said it also “welcomed” the statement from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory regarding violence against Palestinians returning to Gaza “and what it documented of physical violence, threats, inhumane treatment, and humiliating searches” as well as the seizure of personal items.

Furthermore, the ministry “called on the international community to take immediate and effective measures to stop settler terrorism..and compel Israel..to respect the ceasefire agreement and implement its obligations”.

Lastly, the ministry called for the US-backed Gaza Peace Plan to be implemented.

Hamas slams re-establishment of illegal colonies near Jenin

The Palestinian movement’s statement comes amid increasing Israeli settler violence and colony expansion in the occupied West Bank, including a recent siege on multiple Palestinian homes near Nablus.

“The arrogance of the occupation will not succeed in uprooting our people from their land,” a statement by the group said in response to the Israeli decision to re-establish the previously evacuated Ganim illegal colony near Jenin.

Hamas urged Palestinians to “strengthen their steadfastness and attachment to their land” and “increase the use of all means of resistance and confrontation” to deter Israeli troops and colonists.

Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s far-right finance minister, announced on Wednesday that 26 Palestinian-owned buildings in Jenin were being demolished.

He said demolitions were taking place to rebuild the colonies of Ganim and Kadim, which were vacated in 2005.

Israeli colonists shielded from police jurisdiction

The Israeli police has no jurisdiction over Israeli colonists. The only purpose that they have in the occupied West Bank is to protect the colonists. They do not have a law enforcement mandate over the colonists.

And so what you have are dozens of illegal outposts that have been established and funded by the state, celebrated by ministers in the cabinet and then really harrowing scenes like the ones we’ve seen over the past 48 hours from Qusra, inviting very harsh criticism from Ambassador Huckabee, especially because there is a US citizen involved.

The US ambassador also said that the army was intervening after he called them up after he complained about settler attacks.

The Israeli minister of defence said that what is happening in Qusra is costing them their friends, but he’s also hearing from the generals that the Israeli army is stretched to the limit.

They cannot deploy any more Israeli soldiers to protect all of these colonists, setting up all of those outposts across the occupied West Bank.

Arab League condemns Israeli settler storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

Nabil Fahmy, secretary-general of the Arab League, has condemned hundreds of Israeli colonists, under the protection of Israeli police, for storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem and performing Jewish prayers there.

In a statement, Fahmy said he considered this action to be a “flagrant violation of the sanctity of the mosque, international law and international legitimacy resolutions”.

He added that he holds “the Israeli occupation fully responsible for these violations” and called on the “international community, including the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and provide protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites”.

Prayers are not allowed for non-Muslims at the site as part of the status quo arrangement, in place since 1967, in the city that is holy to the three Abrahamic religions although Jewish people are permitted to visit the compound.

For Muslims, the compound is Islam’s third holiest site. It is home to the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque and is where Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended into heaven.

It is also the holiest site in Judaism, known as the Temple Mount, where the ancient Temple of Jerusalem once stood.

Israeli forces have continued to launch raids and arrest Palestinians across the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency, Wafa.

• Israeli forces arrested three Palestinians, while colonists seized a tractor from the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah.
• Israeli forces issued demolition orders for a residential building and three homes, one of which is under construction, in Kafr Sur, south of Tulkarem.
• Israeli colonists have begun establishing a new colony outpost in the al-Nazla al-Sharqiya village, north of Tulkarem.
• Israeli forces demolished about 20 houses belonging to farmers in the “al-Makhrouq” lands in the village of al-Jiftlik, north of Jericho and the Jordan Valley.

Judge nixes Trump lawsuit alleging Harvard did not protect Jewish students

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit by Trump’s administration that alleged Harvard University failed to protect Jewish and Israeli students from harassment.

In his ruling, US District Judge Richard Stearns in Boston said the Trump administration’s lawsuit, filed in March, had not plausibly shown an ongoing violation of federal civil rights law on Harvard’s campus.

The Trump administration has repeatedly claimed administrators did not adequately protect students against anti-Jewish actions during the demonstrations.

Protest organizers have long rejected the premise, saying the administration has willfully conflated criticism of Israel with anti-Semitism while using isolated anti-Jewish actions to justify crackdowns on pro-Palestinian speech.

Israeli defence minister inaugurates new illegal settlement in Jenin

The Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has said settler attacks and the scenes in Qusra are “costing Israel” and “its friends”.

The Israeli attacks – as well as the building of new illegal settlements and outposts – across Palestinian territories have continued.

The minister of defense inaugurated a new settlement in the Jenin area on Thursday, shortly after Israeli soldiers demolished Palestinian shops and properties on the same day.

Israeli settlers injure three Palestinians, including a child, southwest of Jenin

Three Palestinians, including a young girl, have been injured after Israeli settlers attacked their vehicle with pepper spray between the towns of Arrabeh and Yabad, southwest of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Local sources told Wafa that the injured were a 64-year-old man, a 40-year-old man and a young girl. Reports said that the ambulance crews provided them with on-site medical treatment.
