Israel claims its forces killed Hamas ‘sniper’ in northern Gaza

Israel’s army says its forces have killed a Palestinian person it identified as “a sniper” of Hamas near “the ‘Yellow Line’ area” in northern Gaza.

The troops from the 99th Division opened fire “in order to remove the threat”, the statement published on Telegram claimed.

According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, Israel killed 1,259 people in the enclave since the US-brokered “ceasefire” took effect in October last year.

Qatar says Israel is ‘dragging its feet’ by rejecting Gaza peace plan

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, has accused Israel of continuing its policy of “foot-dragging” by rejecting the Gaza peace plan, part of the ceasefire deal reached with Hamas.

Al-Ansari said that Qatar “hopes the international community would exert pressure that culminates in implementing the second phase of the accord”, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement shared on social media.

During his weekly news briefing, al-Ansari lauded Hamas for announcing over the weekend that it was ready to proceed with the plan, which includes disarmament, saying that the declaration “helped achieve a breakthrough in the agreement”.

The spokesperson said that it was now Israel’s responsibility to “live up to its obligations”.

“The State of Qatar continues to work with its partners in the international community to ensure the transition to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement based on the plan declared” by US President Donald Trump, said al-Ansari.

Israel holding 1,700 Palestinian bodies for future prisoner swaps: Israeli sources

Israeli security officials are retaining the remains of about 1,700 Palestinians for potential future prisoner swaps, according to Israel’s daily, Haaretz.

The figure was raised in recent discussions within Israel’s security establishment, the paper reported, citing two unnamed sources.

David Zini, head of Israel’s domestic intelligence agency, the Shin Bet, supports holding the bodies in case Israelis are captured or go missing in the future – a position also backed by the military, according to the report.

In October last year, a Palestinian advocacy group said Israel was holding about 1,500 bodies of Gaza residents at the Sde Teiman facility.

Israel has killed at least 1,258 Palestinians since a US-brokered “ceasefire” took effect in October last year, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. More than 73,000 have been killed since October 2023.

International humanitarian law (IHL) explicitly prohibits withholding human remains for use as bargaining chips or leverage in prisoner exchanges, requiring instead that the dead be treated with respect, honorably buried, and returned to their families.

• Prohibition on Using the Dead as Leverage: Utilizing corpses as political or military bargaining chips violates the foundational customary rule requiring respect for the war dead.
• Duty to Return Remains: Parties to a conflict must endeavor to facilitate the return of the remains of the deceased to their families upon request.

The Israeli belligerent has been violated these rules at least since 2012. The snatched bodies are buried either in numbered or unmarked graves.

US senator calls on ambassador to Israel to resign

US Senator Chris Van Hollen has called on Mike Huckabee, Washington’s ambassador to Israel, to step down, accusing him of failing to protect American citizens and becoming a mouthpiece for the Israeli government.

“A US ambassador’s job is to protect & defend the citizens & interests of the United States. @USAmbIsrael Mike Huckabee has failed to do so,” Van Hollen wrote on X.

“As violence consumes the West Bank & extremists call for a Greater Israel, he’s become a mouthpiece for the Israeli govt,” he said.

“He should resign.”

Israel authorizes new colony following West Bank land grab

Israel has issued new administrative orders to officially legalize a colonist outpost near Sinjil, north of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Quoting a statement from the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, Wafa reported that Israel’s so-called Civil Administration approved the “jurisdictional boundaries of the Givat Har’el” outpost, effectively authorizing it to be transformed into an independent “colony, with its own planning and expansion powers”.

The measure is part of a process initiated by the Israeli government in February 2023 to regularize the status of both the Givat Har’el and Givat Haro’eh outposts.

The move aims to consolidate a colony belt around Sinjil and al-Lubban Asharqiya, linking local outposts to the larger colonies of Shilo and Ma’ale Levona, according to the commission.

Israeli forces evict Palestinian family ahead of West Bank home demolition

Israeli forces have forcibly evicted families in the West Bank village of Tal, near Nablus, ahead of the planned demolition of Farouk Ramadan’s home.

Ramadan, an unarmed Palestinian resident, was shot dead after seizing a rifle from an armed colonist and opening fire during a confrontation to defend his land.

The incident on June 24 resulted in six deaths – four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers – along with multiple injuries and triggered a wave of intensified attacks by Israeli forces and colonists across the occupied West Bank.

Israeli raids continue across occupied West Bank

The Israeli military continues attacks and raids across the occupied West Bank, with arrests, home raids, and forced displacement reported in several areas.

• Six Palestinians, including two children, were injured early Tuesday morning after being beaten by Israeli forces during a raid on the town of Burqa, northwest of Nablus, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.
• Israeli forces arrested five Palestinians from different areas of the Bethlehem governorate, according to the Wafa news agency.
• Wafa also reported Israeli raids in al-Khader, Tuqu, al-Obeidiya, Dar Salah, al-Shawawra and Zaatara, as well as the village of Jaba.
• Israeli military patrols raided the town of Tammun, deploying across several neighbourhoods and raiding a number of Palestinian homes, Wafa reported.
• Dozens of Israeli military vehicles stormed the village of Tal, south of Nablus, according to our colleagues on the ground.
• Israeli forces fired tear gas at Palestinians in the plains surrounding the village of al-Mughayyir, near Jenin, according to our colleagues on the ground.

Far-right Israeli minister says he’s proud of West Bank colony expansion

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has responded to a report by the colony watchdog Peace Now, which documented the government’s expansion of illegal colonies and steps towards annexing the occupied West Bank.

According to our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic, Smotrich said his government is reversing policies pursued over the past 30 years, adding that he is proud of the colony expansion under his oversight.

He stated that these measures are intended to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state and that the ongoing changes in the occupied West Bank are merely the starting point.

Smotrich also rejected Peace Now’s characterization of the policies as annexation, framing them instead as an effort by Israel to establish a necessary security zone.

West Bank escalations intensify ahead of Israeli elections, residents say

Residents we spoke with in the village of Tal, as well as in several other nearby communities, report that Israeli attacks have intensified. The Israeli army continues its daily incursions, further worsening the humanitarian, living and economic conditions for Palestinians – particularly through the daily arrests of dozens of people and raids on homes in Tal and neighboring villages.

Palestinians see these actions as a siege aimed at worsening their suffering or forcing their displacement. Meanwhile, colonists have begun paving roads, bulldozing land, uprooting Palestinian-owned olive and fruit trees, and placing mobile homes and caravans in the area to establish actual sovereignty over occupied West Bank land.

This is particularly significant ahead of the upcoming Israeli elections, which will likely prove decisive for many events in the occupied West Bank. Campaigning is playing out daily on the ground, with right-wing parties seeking to gain support through further escalation and assaults against Palestinians.

According to the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, more than 12,000 assaults have been recorded.

Tensions rise as Israeli forces move to Nablus city after Tal village raid

Hours after invading the village of Tal and demolishing the house of Palestinian resident Farouk Ramadan [who was shot dead last month], a three-floor house, and arresting and attacking Palestinians, the Israeli military this morning withdrew from the village and has moved on to Nablus.

Currently, there are a number of Israeli military vehicles located in Al-Makhfiyah neighborhood. It’s a residential area to the southwest of Nablus.

There is no further information about the situation or why they are here. They might be coming to arrest someone, or they could be coming to invade or raid a house.

The Israeli military raids […] have the same goal: to force Palestinians to move out, especially from Areas B and C [of the occupied West Bank], [and] to condense as much as possible of Palestinians in the cities that are supposed to be under Palestinian Authority control.

Israeli illegal colony enterprise aimed at denying Palestinians their rights

Israel’s illegal colony enterprise in the occupied West Bank is aimed at preventing Palestinians from exercising their rights and ultimately preventing the establishment of a Palestinian state, political analyst Xavier Abu Eid has said.

“The effect on Palestinians is exactly the same. It’s part of the same colonist enterprise aimed at preventing Palestinians from enjoying their rights in their homeland,” Abu Eid said. He said the issue of Israeli colonists has been normalized locally and internationally, with attempts to distinguish between those living in illegal colonies for economic reasons and more ideologically driven colonists.

But Abu Eid said such distinctions obscure the broader system Israel has built around illegal colonies. “It’s not just about colonies and housing, but about the whole infrastructure,” he said.

As an example, Abu Eid said it is cheaper to travel by bus to an Israeli colony than to a Palestinian village in the West Bank, highlighting how Israel prioritizes illegal colonies and the infrastructure serving them.

He described this as part of a creeping takeover of Palestinian land, accompanied by restrictions on Palestinian movement and the seizure of more territory for Israeli colonists.

Israel confirms demolishing home of killed Palestinian near Nablus

Israeli forces forcibly evicted families from their homes in the occupied West Bank village of Tal, near Nablus, ahead of the planned demolition of the home of Farouk Ramadan.

The Israeli military now confirmed that its forces demolished Ramadan’s home overnight.

Ramadan, an unarmed Palestinian resident, was shot dead last month after seizing a rifle from an armed colonist and opening fire during a confrontation to defend his land. The incident on June 24 resulted in six deaths – four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers – along with multiple injuries.

The Israeli military accused Ramadan of carrying out the shooting, in which the two soldiers were killed.

Israel routinely demolishes families’ homes, which human rights groups say is aimed at expanding illegal Israeli settlements while collectively punishing Palestinians.

Punitive house demolitions that leave a family homeless constitute unlawful collective punishment and a grave breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

• Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention explicitly states that no protected person may be punished for an offense they did not personally commit, and bans all collective penalties and measures of intimidation.
• Article 53 forbids the destruction of real or personal property by an occupying power except where rendered "absolutely necessary by military operations," a standard that punitive actions do not meet.
• Under Article 147, the extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully constitutes a grave breach, which international bodies treat as a war crime.

Israeli colonist being charged for killing of Palestinian ‘is an anomaly’

The fact that an Israeli colonist has been charged over the killing of Awdah Hathaleen is an anomaly, and still remains to see what sentence the accused may receive.

Awdah Hathaleen was shot by an Israeli colonist who is on the sanctions list of EU countries, and he taped his act.

This is a colonist who lived in an illegal outpost in the Hebron Hills. He was at large for months, until video evidence and international pressure proved beyond doubt that he shot this man without any cause or justification.

The colonist is now being charged, and it is unknown how that trial will end or whether it will end with a sentence.

This has happened before, where Israeli colonists and soldiers are fined symbolic amounts of money, or given a few days in prison, or sentences that add insult to injury, in a handful of cases where the killing of Palestinians actually makes it to trial.

The impunity is endemic and systemic because the system is designed not to hold Israeli soldiers or colonists accountable.

Happened in the occupied West Bank

• Israeli forces arrested 25 Palestinians across the West Bank between dawn and this morning, with the arrests concentrated in Bethlehem, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
• Dozens of settlers, protected by Israeli forces, attacked Palestinian residents ploughing their land in the fields of al-Mughayyir, firing tear gas. Six Palestinians were injured. The village council head said that Israeli forces raided the village after the settler attack, firing tear gas and stun grenades.
• Israeli forces remain deployed in Nablus in several neighborhoods, with ongoing raids on Palestinian homes, according to our colleagues on the ground.
• Israeli forces detonated the home of killed Palestinian Farouk Ramadan on Tuesday, in the village of Tal, southwest of Nablus. Israeli forces had stormed the village of Tal on Monday evening and forced residents of several homes to leave in preparation for demolishing Ramadan’s house.

Hamas slams house demolitions in occupied West Bank

Hamas official Abdul Rahman Shadid says Israel’s policy of demolishing homes in the occupied West Bank “will not deter the Palestinian people from holding fast to their land and confronting settler terrorism and the fascist occupation army”.

Shadid said in a statement that what happened in the village of Tal, southwest of Nablus, with the demolition of Palestinian resident Farouk Ramadan’s home, represents “collective punishment against our Palestinian people”.

Shadid called on the people in the West Bank to unite and support the families of the owners of the demolished homes.

Farouk Ramadan was involved in a confrontation during a settler attack on the village of Tal on July 24. His house was reportedly blown up earlier today.

Israel launched a military operation in the West Bank after the confrontation, in which four Palestinians and two Israelis were killed.

Escalation in settler attacks in occupied West Bank driven by upcoming Israeli elections

The recent escalation in settler attacks against Palestinians is state-sponsored and driven by the upcoming Israeli elections at the end of October, according to Ubai Al-Aboudi, a human rights advocate and former executive director of the Bisan Center for Research and Development.

“As a policy and a way to promote their policies or to promote themselves among the general electorate, the Israeli politicians that are now in charge of the government are giving more of a free hand and encouraging settlers even more to do these kinds of widespread attacks, pogroms, ethnic cleansing operations against Palestinians,” Al-Aboudi said.

Al-Aboudi noted that the surge in violence is also linked to a potential change in government in October.

“So, the settlers also understand that any new government might not be as lenient towards them, towards the ethnic cleansing process that they are taking right now on the ground,” he said, emphasizing that the primary objective is to displace Palestinians from their land.

“The fact [is] that Israelis, through the government policy, through their genocidal policies, through their support of the settler militias … have been trying to push Palestinians out of our lands, to drive us away to make us refugees again,” Al-Aboudi added.

More than 500 Israeli attacks recorded in West Bank in past week: Palestinian cabinet

Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has warned of escalating settler and Israeli military attacks in the occupied West Bank and worsening conditions in Gaza.

His cabinet said in a statement on Tuesday that more than 504 attacks by settlers and Israeli forces were recorded in the past week, according to the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, alongside widespread demolitions and orders to confiscate more land. It highlighted the demolition of commercial structures along the Jenin-Nablus road earlier on Tuesday.

Mustafa stressed the need to maintain essential services, particularly water and electricity, following repeated settler attacks on infrastructure and what he said were continued Israeli cuts to supplies.

On Gaza, the cabinet called for safe, unhindered delivery of food, water, shelter and medicine amid warnings of severe shortages and repeated forced displacement during extreme heat.

The cabinet also approved renewed contracts with law firms to defend Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, advanced e-procurement and vehicle import regulations, and endorsed an industrial cooperation memorandum with Turkey.

Mayor among four Palestinians briefly detained by Israeli forces in Hebron

Israeli forces have briefly detained three Hebron Rehabilitation Committee workers and Hebron Mayor Yousef al-Jaabari while the four inspected rehabilitation projects in Hebron’s Old City, according to the Wafa news agency.

The incident occurred in the Jaber neighborhood, where forces also detained a separate team working on well rehabilitation. Everyone was later released, the report said.

The neighborhood has faced ongoing Israeli restrictions, including suspended development projects and blocked access to basic services.

UK’s Miliband says Israel ‘must crack down’ on settler violence in first call with Saar

UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said he held a “frank and constructive” first call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, reaffirming the UK’s “fundamental commitment to a two-state solution” and the shared goal of preventing a nuclear-armed Iran.

He said he raised “the sharp escalation of settler violence and settlement expansion” as well as the humanitarian situation in Gaza, saying “Israel must crack down” on both.

Miliband said Hamas “must decommission its weapons,” called for an Israeli army withdrawal from the Strip, and urged progress on the 20-point plan.

Israel has rejected the 15-point Gaza peace plan developed by US President Trump’s so-called “Board of Peace”.

UN warns occupied West Bank at ‘breaking point’

UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov warned that the occupied West Bank is “at the breaking point”, saying 76 Palestinians, including 18 minors, have been killed there this year.

He said 3,800 Palestinians, nearly half of them children, have been displaced by Israeli settler violence, and demolitions and evictions at the hands of Israeli authorities, with the UN documenting more than 1,430 settler attacks affecting some 260 Palestinian communities.

UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Hannan Sulieman said 174 Palestinian children were killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, between January 2024 and July 2026, while more than 1,500 were injured. She said 355 Palestinian children are being held in Israeli military detention, the highest number in eight years.

Sulieman urged the UN Security Council to protect children, adding: “Children in the West Bank have the same rights as children everywhere — to live, to learn, to be protected and to imagine a future beyond violence and fear.”

Israeli settlers and soldiers tighten grip on West Bank villages

Israeli forces demolish Palestinian homes in villages like al-Zweidin, displacing families and destroying vital infrastructure, including water wells.

An average of 122 Palestinian structures are demolished every month, while settlers and soldiers jointly attack communities such as al-Mughayyir, burning fields and targeting homes.

With up to 60 percent of village land confiscated and at least 11 illegal outposts built, 119 communities are uprooted, leaving Palestinians treated as trespassers on their own land.

Israeli forces continue raids and arrests in occupied West Bank

Arrests and raids in the occupied West Bank continue. Israeli forces have raided Baqa ash-Sharqiyya, north of Tulkarem, and arrested Palestinians from Wadi al-Rakhim, near Masafer Yatta, the Wafa news agency reports.

Local sources told Wafa that several Israeli military vehicles stormed the town of Baqa ash-Sharqiyya and patrolled its main streets, blocking residents’ vehicles from moving.

Wadi al-Rakhim media activist Osama Makhamra told Wafa that Israeli forces arrested brothers Salah and Muhammad Ibrahim Shanaran after raiding their home near Masafer Yatta. Israeli settlers also reportedly erected a tent on residents’ land on the eastern side of the village.
