US tells Lebanon Israel will not escalate attacks on country: Presidency

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reports that Lebanon’s presidency says President Joseph Aoun received assurances from US Ambassador Michel Issa that Israel would not step up its already frequent attacks on Lebanon as long as there are no “hostile acts” towards Israel from Lebanese territory.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah has condemned the US-Israeli attacks on its close ally Iran, but has not commented on whether or not it will enter the conflict with attacks on Israel or US military positions in the region.

In February 2026, Netanyahu lobbied Donald Trump for a joint military strike on Iran, specifically targeting its leadership.

During the last week of February 28, 2026, there where still mediations going on between Iran and the US at Oman's diplomatic mission in Vienna, Austria. Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff where present at the meetings but had also contact with the Israelis.

On February 27th, Jared Kushner told his father-in-law Donald Trump that Iran was going to attack.

The following day, Netanyahu ordered the execution of the assassination of the Iranian Supreme Leader and the bombing of Tehran to be carried out. Khamenei was killed in the building that was monitored by the Mossad and the CIA. Hours later, Trump authorized "Operation Epic Fury."

On March 1st, Hezbollah reacted to the assassination by vowing revenge, which it carried out the following day. Netanyahu took advantage by branding Hezbollah's revenge as "an attack on Israel" thereby with the US beginning to scapegoat Hezbollah, and saw it as an excuse to invade Lebanon.
