Israeli air strikes on southern Lebanon have caused catastrophic destruction across the region.

The attacks have also severely damaged historic landmarks, including the ancient city of Tyre, which is recognized as one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited settlements.

Israeli forces kill Hezbollah fighter and ‘suspect’ in southern Lebanon

Israel’s military says it killed a Hezbollah fighter on Friday near an underground tunnel shaft at Ali al-Taher ridge in southern Lebanon, in an area where Israeli forces have declared a “security zone”.

It says the fighter “posed an immediate threat to the soldiers and was eliminated in a precise aerial strike”.

The military said a separate strike killed a “suspect” travelling in a vehicle who “posed a threat” to Israeli soldiers in the zone.

It said the military “will not allow Hezbollah terrorists to emerge from the underground terror infrastructure and operate in the area”.

US military team arrives in Lebanon to support ceasefire with Israel

The US has sent a military delegation to help implement a framework agreement aimed at ending the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, the Financial Times has reported.

Two senior Lebanese officials told the UK newspaper that the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) had sent the officials to Beirut on Friday ahead of technical talks between Lebanon and Israel scheduled in Rome next week.

The discussions will focus on implementing a US-sponsored framework agreement reached on June 26, providing for a phased Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

Turkey's Anadolu news agency said it had received confirmation from a US State Department spokesperson that CENTCOM was “coordinating closely” with both countries.

The spokesperson told Anadolu that Israel and Lebanon had reached the “implementation stage” of the agreement and that the first pilot zone, from which Israeli forces are expected to withdraw, will launch within days.

Israel hits southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh in late-night air attacks

The Israeli army has hit the outskirts of Nabatieh in an air raid, reported Lebanon’s National News Agency.

The report said Israel followed up with another drone attack at the same location five minutes later, coinciding with machinegun fire on Zawtar al-Sharqiyah, a municipality overlooking the Litani River.

Israel drops sound bomb in southern Lebanese municipality

An Israeli drone has dropped a sound bomb on the municipality of al-Mansouri, in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district, the country’s National News Agency has reported.

Israeli army blows up homes in southern Lebanon

The Israeli army has targeted the Hula municipality in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district, blowing up homes, according to the country’s National News Agency.

A drone attack in the municipality of Kfar Tebnit has also been reported.

US, Lebanon delegations meet to discuss implementation of framework agreement

Lebanese sources have said that delegations from the armed forces of the US and Lebanon have met to work out a mechanism for implementing the first so-called pilot zone in the south.

This follows reports in Lebanese media and the Financial Times that a US delegation was in Beirut for talks.

The US-brokered framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel outlines two pilot zones for an initial Israeli withdrawal, where the Lebanese military “will gradually assume full and effective security responsibility”.

Israeli forces move into eastern outskirts of Lebanon’s Beit Yahoun: Lebanese state media

Israeli forces have used three tanks and several bulldozers to advance into the eastern edge of the town of Beit Yahoun in southern Lebanon, reports Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).

In Houla, also in southern Lebanon, NNA said Israeli forces ignited fires, damaging homes and olive trees.

As we reported earlier, an Israeli air attack hit the southern town of al-Mansouri, while Israeli forces blew up homes in Nabatieh district.

Lebanese government looking for Israeli withdrawal from pilot zones before Rome talks

As part of the framework agreement mediated by the US between Israel and Lebanon, the Israeli military is supposed to be withdrawing from pilot zones in the south, where the Lebanese army will then deploy. There’s been a US military delegation in town here in Beirut, meeting with senior leaders from the Lebanese army to discuss those pilot zones.

Officials have told local media here in Lebanon that the Lebanese government is insisting that happens before they proceed with the next round of direct negotiations, which is scheduled for next week in Rome.

Now, Hezbollah has maintained its opposition to those direct talks between Lebanon and Israel, preferring to maintain a ceasefire between the US and Iran which stipulates a ceasefire here in Lebanon. But despite the breakdown in that ceasefire this week, the group has held its fire here in Lebanon.

The Israeli military has continued its operations, but not escalated them. On Friday, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that the military had been instructed to refrain from what it described as sensitive operations in southern Lebanon at the request of the United States.

Seven injured by air strikes in Lebanon’s al-Mansouri: Lebanese state media

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reports that seven people have been wounded by air strikes in southern Lebanon’s al-Mansouri.

The agency said five of those injured have been hospitalised, while two were treated at the scene.

Israeli air attacks have repeatedly targeted al-Mansouri today, according to NNA.

Lebanon confirms participation in next round of talks with Israel

Lebanon has informed the US that it will take part in additional talks with Israel to be held in Rome, a Lebanese source has said.

The Lebanese delegation will not include military representation, the source added.

During talks with a US military delegation earlier, the Lebanese army expressed its readiness to deploy to any area from which Israel withdraws.

Israeli army says it struck Hezbollah operatives inside ‘security zone’

The Israeli military has issued a statement claiming it targeted Hezbollah operatives moving weapons inside Israeli-held Lebanese territory, which it regards as a “security zone”.

It said several people were targeted after they were spotted transferring antitank missiles. It is unclear how many people were injured.

Israel has increased the pace of its attacks on southern Lebanon since Thursday night, killing and wounding many.

Lebanon death toll from Israeli attacks rises to 4,322

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health has said the death toll from Israel’s attacks on the country since March 2 has risen to 4,322, with 12,210 wounded.

Israeli army drops warning leaflets over Lebanon’s al-Mansouri

The Israeli military has dropped leaflets over the town of al-Mansouri in Tyre district, warning people not to approach army forces.

“Threatened area, stay away,” the leaflets read. “Any approach to Israeli army forces exposes you to danger, do not approach.”

Israel says the Lebanese town lies within its “security zone”, which its military has been enforcing by ‌firing at anyone approaching it, including both civilians and Lebanese soldiers.

Lebanese state media reports Israeli military activity

The country’s state-run National News Agency says that the Israeli army recently conducted a “sweep” operation on the outskirts of the town of Haris with machinegun fire.

There were no injuries reported, the news agency added.

In a separate incident, the Israeli army dropped a stun grenade on the western area of the town of Haddatha, in the Bint Jbeil district.
